Hello and welcome to Novel Ideas!

My name is Laura and I create unique and personalized Fore-Edge Book Art.  Each piece of art is handcrafted by me, each and every page.

These handmade, personalized gifts are made from recycled/upcycled books.  These photo edge books are created with your photos!  (note that the photo of me to the left is actually a book!  Each page edge was used to create this piece of art.)

Fore-Edge Book art truly make unique, personalized keepsakes and gifts for yourself and loved ones.

I am based in Saratoga Springs, New York and completely self-taught in the art of book folding and fore-edge design work.

Storing books standing on their edges is a relatively new practice. The most common storage prior to the 16th century was to pile them horizontally with the fore-edge facing out. The fore-edge is the edge opposite the spine of the book. Identification issues were resolved by marking the books with a design on this edge or writing the book's title there.

But by the end of the 16th century, there were so many books in libraries that a new system of shelving was required. This is when the method of standing books on end with spines facing out was implemented.

I've devised a method of Fore-Edge book design so that I can create personalized photo books with a GOOD QUALITY photo of your choosing!

Book Art looks great on a book shelf, desk, coffee table or anywhere there is a flat surface.

*** These Books DO NOT come embellished *** To add embellishments, please contact me. There will be an additional cost for this.

*** Please note, this book is MADE TO ORDER. These photos are ONLY a representation of the book you will receive.

*** Please do not request any specific book. (If you would like me to check out a specific book, you would need to provide me with some information about that book.) Not every book is suitable for this book art. I choose books based on pages and thickness. Books are chosen randomly. Color of the hard cover will vary.  However, if you want to avoid a certain color, please do let me know.

TURN AROUND TIME:
Allow 7-10 Business Day's after your purchase for item to be created. If this item needs to be shipped, an additional packaging and shipping cost will be added to US locals. If out of US, please speak with me regarding shipping.
